03Tone & COMPSThe Academy

IntenseAspirationalUnhinged

Shot like a sports documentary that got too close: handheld in the locker room, glossy under the lights, intimate in the dorm at 2 a.m. The game is the spectacle. The phenoms are the story.

Comps are All American's family dynamics, diversity and teamwork; Euphoria's psychological cost of extreme expectations; and Moneyball & Ballers', insiders view thru the eyes of a visionary.

Every kid here was the best in their own hometown.

Now they’re competing to dominate.

one meltdown can cost an athlete tomorrow’s championship, their scholarship, or A shot at the pros. Enter a brilliant sports psychiatrist who knows how to get inside their heads and back in the game, fast. Her methods are unorthodox, her instincts ruthless, and failure is not an option.

04A Note from the CreatorThe Academy

Thank you for taking the time to visualize The Academy.

The dramatic storylines grew from years of watching my sons navigate the fiercely competitive worlds of travel and club sports, CIF Baseball Championships, and Division I football at USC, further heightened by directing the pilot for Phenoms, exploring the lives of the world’s top teen athletes at the IMG Academy.

The Academy reveals a world few see, where teenage athletes navigate blind ambition, NIL dreams, family dynamics, and the pursuit of greatness. Beneath their social media and scholarship offers lie stories of sacrifice, heartbreak, and triumph. The character arcs are limitless, but the journey is universal: dream big, fight through adversity, and take your best shot.

06The WorldThe Academy

Welcome to the daily grind.

Sweat equity, sky-is-the-limit dreams, talent agents, sports psychologists, NIL, PEDs, Hall of Fame alumni, rogue parents and hidden romance all in a new series that mirrors the headlines of today’s emerging $100 billion dollar youth sports industry.

They live on campus. They compete for state titles, Olympic gold and each other for everything else.

07Why NowThe Academy

Youth sports is big business .

$62Bspent every year by U.S. families on youth sports - $102B by 2031*
+46%rise in family spending per child since 2019. CAGR = 10.68%
2×the cash flowing through the NFL

Private academies, travel teams, recruiting services, NIL deals for high schoolers. The system meant to protect kids is now an industry built on them. There are rules, and the rules get broken. The Academy lives in that gap.

Elin Bergstrom “Dr. B”

Mental Performance Coach

Series Regular

Dr. Elin Bergstrom, early forties, is the senior staff of mental conditioning at The Academy. Her reputation proceeds her as she’s been on the cover of “Psychology Today” and “Sports Illustrated”. What she wants most is to help young athletes win and she gravitates to the hard cases, those who tweak her own demons. Addicted to painkillers recovering from a career ending downhill crash at the Olympics, Elin lost her edge then regained it in med school. "Dr. B" is now the expert the coaches call when a superstar is falling apart. Her bedside manner is rough. Her results are not.

Her role in the show

Every student at The Academy ends up in Dr. B’s office. They share confidential secrets. What they do with her advice unfolds in unexpected ways throughout the season.

recurring guest star

Whose dream is it anyway?

Julius “Take It to the Bank” Banks

Father of Dre & X · Pastor · Motivational speaker

He bought a McMansion near campus and drives a white Bentley. Julius loves his boys (and he controls them). He wants the best deal for his kids, driven by greed.

At The Academy, the most dangerous opponents aren't on the other team. They're in the stands, holding the checkbook.

13The SceneThe Academy

From the pilot episode

THE TOUR

Big Al wants the Banks brothers. Julius wants a payday. Neither one is leaving the sky deck without a deal.

Julius arrives at Big Al, toe to toe.

BIG AL

Oh, and that off-the-books money… I want no part of it. I won't sell out this program.

JULIUS

Thought we had an understanding?

BIG AL

We do. You need me. A million each is still a stretch, but my donors run deep.

JULIUS

Al, I texted my boys. I told ’em we’re doing a deal.

BIG AL

Then let’s do a deal. You’ve got thirty seconds. I want Dre and X here, one million, and keep your offshore money… offshore.

Julius, for the first time, is tongue-tied. Big Al closes in.

BIG AL

Whose dream is it anyway… “Dad”? Boys don’t need the jewelry yet. They need coaching, mentoring, W’s… and trust.

Big Al extends his hand. Checkmate. Julius doesn’t shake it. He’s torn.

DING! The elevator doors open. Destiny, Dre, X and the camera crew step out in full go mode.

14The EngineThe Academy

Two athletes. One mistake away.

  1. A

    The A-stories

Each episode follows two student athletes, on the field and off it: fighting for a roster spot, fearing the grind won't pay off, winning and losing in competition.

  2. B

    The B-story

The ensemble's relationships, antics, academic trouble, and the temptations of living away from home at 16.

  3. Spine

    The spine

Dr. B’s sessions. The kids tell her their secrets, then do their best to follow her advice. Most mistakes at their age are survivable. At The Academy, one mistake can end a career.

15Season OneThe Academy

One season. One class. One shot.

Proposed arc · Bruce to confirm

  1. Opening

    The Takeover

Big Al closes his purchase of The Academy and makes his first statement signing: the Banks brothers, at a price that comes with strings. Dr. B is hired to fix a star who's cracking.

  2. Midseason

    The Leak

A positive drug test, an NIL deal that breaks the rules, a donor who expects playing time in return. The program's image and Big Al's promise not to sell out start to come apart.

  3. Finale

    Signing Day

Commitments, draft boards and championship weekend all arrive at once. Some kids get their dream. Some get a deal. Not everyone survives the season with both.
